“Therefore, away with them!” Luther’s Fall with regard to the Jews Rent Material Links

An exhibition which can be rented

Within the decade leading up to the year 2017, one of the ten years has the theme “Reformation and Tolerance”. The Reformers believed fundamentally that “faith and conscience cannot be coerced”. However, Luther’s demand for non-violent debate was not always followed. Also, his own tolerance had limits which were much more narrowly defined than the parameters of subsequent Human Rights or the Grundgesetz (constitutional laws of Germany). (Office of the Evangelische Kirche of Germany) The exhibition displays Luther’s ambivalent, intolerant and even aggressive stance over against the Judaism of his time. Also displayed: the ecclesiastical history leading up to Luther and the reception of Lutheran Anti-Judaism in the Third Reich, as well as the question “What remains to be done?”
